Stuart H. Mayer
Partner

Mr. Mayer's technical expertise is in physics and materials science. He has prepared and prosecuted numerous patents involving passive and active photonic devices, optical communication systems, semiconductor devices and fabrication techniques, and communications hardware and software.
Mr. Mayer began his legal career as a patent agent with the intellectual property law firm of Kenyon & Kenyon. While there he drafted patent applications, conducted validity and infringement analyses and provided technical support for patent litigation. In 1993, Mr. Mayer joined AT&T Bell Laboratories as a patent attorney, where he prosecuted patent applications, conducted infringement and validity studies, and counseled clients in transactional matters. He also coordinated the patent agendas for a number of research departments and supervised the preparation and prosecution of applications by outside counsel.
In addition to representing a number of well-established, international companies, Mr. Mayer serves as the primary intellectual property resource for several high technology start-up companies, and in some cases serves as both general counsel and chief patent counsel. In his role as chief patent counsel Mr. Mayer has led the development of patent portfolios having strategically and commercially important patents. In this capacity he also directs ongoing design-around efforts that often begin at the preliminary stages of project development.
