Ms. Parker is an experienced intellectual property litigator, with expertise in pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. She also has successfully litigated high-stakes trademark, trade secret and copyright cases. In addition, she renders opinions to clients on the feasibility of new product introductions. Ms. Parker began her legal career in 1989 as a summer associate with the intellectual property law firm of Kenyon & Kenyon. She became a partner at Kenyon in 1999. She departed in 2000 to teach patent law, patent litigation and an intellectual property workshop at the University Maryland School of Law. In 2001, she was hired as an Expert Pharmaceutical Litigation Consultant by a multi-state working group of Attorneys General. In January, 2004, Ms. Parker became a partner with Mayer & Williams.
While working with the State Attorneys General, Ms. Parker advised them on invalidity, infringement, inequitable conduct, antitrust and fraud issues relating to litigation against a pharmaceutical company suspected of misusing patents to keep generic Taxol (R) and BuSpar (R) competition from the market. Ms. Parker's analysis of the evidence and the law relating to conduct before the United States Food and Drug Administration and the United States Patent and Trademark Office was instrumental in achieving successful resolutions in both cases, including substantial monetary and injunctive relief for the states. In addition, she engaged in debates with attorneys from the Federal Trade Commission for the benefit of the Assistant Attorneys General, and advised them on many substantive, strategic, and relief issues relating to patent law.
While at Kenyon, Ms. Parker gained extensive litigation experience in the various facets of complex patent and trademark litigation. The subject of patent infringement matters varied widely, and included pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, neutraceuticals, soil remediation, printing presses and industrial soap dispensers, among others. Ms. Parker's responsibilities included conducting trials, arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, formulating and executing litigation strategy, and counseling clients, as well as supervising, researching and writing briefs and memoranda on all essential aspects of patent, trademark, privilege, procedure and evidence law. Ms. Parker has practiced in numerous federal courts nationwide, as well as in the International Trade Commission.
