
Ms. Wieczorek's practice includes client counseling in all phases of intellectual property development and related corporate law. In particular, her practice emphasizes patent strategy and analysis as well as the development and management of patent portfolios. Her technical expertise is in molecular biology. She has filed and prosecuted provisional, non-provisional and foreign patent applications as well as trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Wieczorek has also prepared opinions regarding infringement and patent validity, and has conducted freedom to operate analyses. Ms. Wieczorek's corporate work has included preparation and negotiation of a wide variety of contracts including domestic and international clinical trial agreements, vendor agreements, material transfer agreements, non-disclosure agreements, consulting agreements, and other contractual matters affecting corporate operations. She has advised individuals, start-up companies, universities and research institutes, and large technology and manufacturing companies, in all phases of patent portfolio development and management.
Ms. Wieczorek began her legal career at Merck in 1997, where she has prepared and prosecuted numerous patents involving assays, DNA and protein sequences. In 1998, she joined Arena Pharmaceuticals, where she later became Intellectual Property Counsel. As one of the first employees of Arena, she was responsible for building the IP portfolio and was instrumental in the IP portion of the company's initial public offering. While at Arena she further participated in IP due diligence studies for acquisitions and investments of technology companies, and assisted in the preparation of the IP portions of IPO and secondary offering filings.
Ms. Wieczorek is the founding chairperson of the BIOCOM IP Subcommittee, and has given several invited talks to inventors on patent law.
